Top 7 tips on getting back in Shape for Dating

After a long-term relationship, divorce or loss of the spouse, getting back in the dating pool may seem a daunting task indeed. You need to give yourself a time to be ready, healed and positive about it and only then will you be bound to succeed. And how exactly to get there, you ask? Well, just follow this 7 tips and you'll be ready to jump on that horse in no time.

#1 Don't be a couch potato

Easier said than done, we know. And while we do understand how hard returning to an active lifestyle can be - and by this, we don't only mean physical activity but also mingling with other people on various social events - we suggest you should take baby steps first. Namely, a moderate physical activity can increase your levels of energy and thus make you feel good about yourself, which will consequently affect your social skills in a positive way. And this will altogether help you with getting back into a dating game.

#2 Tell your friends that you're back in the game

We'd like to stress out it would be best to do this only when you're really, and we mean REALLY ready. There's no need to feel an extra pressure to get involved with someone just because you're in your thirties and society standards say it's the time to settle in and have a family, for instance; you should do it for the sake of your own happiness only. And deep down inside, you'll know exactly when the time is right. It's a kind of an inner alarm that will buzz when you're finally ready, and we believe that everyone has one!

#3 Go Back to Your Favorite Places

You might not feel like it at first, especially if you have some bad memories of the guy whom you met in your favorite club and who left that big, ugly scar on your heart a few years ago, for instance. On the other hand, the glass can be a half full or half empty, depending on how you decide to see it, meaning that you can also try to think of all the positive things that happened in your favorite places. It doesn't have to be a club, it can be your favorite park where you shared that first, sloppy kiss with a girl, for example. Just try to remain positive at all cost and make your own life philosophy out of it!

#4 Avoid the presence of energetic vampires

If you're feeling an extra sensitive or vulnerable because you belong to a group of widows and widowers dating again, for instance, we would warmly advise you against surrounding yourself with people who often complain or criticize others just so they can feel better about themselves. You should also keep in mind these people often have an opinion about basically anything, but it doesn't entitle them to make decisions on your behalf. You and only you will know the best when the most convenient moment to start pursuing romantic happiness again finally arrives.

#5 Get Ready for Trials and Errors

Don't be too hard on yourself. Is there really a need to turn a regular date failure into a large-scale drama? After all, finding a compatible partner has a lot to do with luck too, but it doesn't imply that you should miss the fun while in the process. Further, various dating gaffes can be something that you'll laugh to tomorrow while telling them over and over again to your friends and family.

#6 Don't make Comparisons

So, he doesn't look like your ex at all? Big deal! This isn't something that your ex-girlfriend would approve? So what. Let exes be exes. After all, they are what they are for a big reason. And you shouldn't allow anyone to come back from their metaphorical grave to ruin your happiness. Enjoy the new things as they are and be open-minded about various possibilities coming up along the way.

#7 Dressed for success

It might sound pretty trivial, we know, especially if you're casual type that doesn't frankly care a lot about their appearance. Still, there are little things that can make you feel good about yourself. This doesn't mean tons of makeup or wearing a tie, but pampering yourself with a spa day, for instance, or experimenting with a different fashion style that will make you feel good about yourself.
